Draft @ Ale Gion Beer, Kyoto. Almost black/dark brown with almost no (beige) head. Aroma of dried fruits, malts and toffee. Taste of malts, dried fruits, brown sugar, malt lozenges, herbs and caramel. Moderate bitterness. Medium carbonation. Balanced and delicious.

On tap at Craft Beer Bar iBrew - Akihabara, pours a dark chestnut brown with a small beige head. Aroma brings out strong English malt, a litre brown sugar, and bready malt. Flavour is strong, with big bready malt, some toffee, light spicy yeast, and caramel. Pretty dry for a barley wine—not really similar to a English or Americans Barleywine, but closer to the former. Interesting.
