draught from alewife. Brown pour white head. Seriously peaty with light caramel malts.

Poured into an English pint glass, the appearance was a dark amber almost brown color with a thin off white foamy head that trickled off into the beer at a nice pace. Some messy clingy lace.
The aroma had some light smoke, caramel malts, and some earthy and slightly sandy hops.
The flavor took all of the previously mentioned aromas together, slightly earthy/slightly salty or sandy-to-gritty. Malts, pretty much stay fairly low key. Aftertaste wants to be smooth, but still that earthy/grittiness becomes slightly distracting. Quick finish.
On the palate, this one wasn’t as smooth as ton of Scottish ales that I’ve had in the past normally are. Light to medium bodied. Some carbonation. ABV felt appropriate by the brewer. Grittiness seemed toned down here.
Overall, not sure where the grittiness is coming from and where are the tea-like aromatic hops I normally associate with the style. Not sure about this one. This will stand until I’m able to talk with the brewer if I ever get a chance.

Pine Box Rock Shop, Brooklyn tap: pours dark amber with an off white head. Aroma is light smoke, caramel malts, a good bit of hops. Taste is in a lot of ways rather simple. However, it is well balanced and put together in avery drinkable way. Sweet, but not too much. Malty but tempered with hops. Smoky but lightly. I liked it plenty. Alcohol was nowhere to be seen and the pint of this went down quickly.

Tap at Proletariat, NYC, 25/11/13. Dark amber with a moderate off white covering. Nose is caramel, dark fruit, biscuit malt, brown sugar. Taste comprises caramel, a lick’o’booze, toffee, biscuit malt backbone, honey comb. Medium bodied with a li’l kick, light brown sugars in a dry sweetish conclusion. OK.

On tap at Jimmy,s 43 for the Duck Off. Served in a chimay glass pours deep amber with one finger sized beige head. Nose of smoke and malt. Tastes very malty sweet, peat smoke, carMel, earth, and light pine. Pretty decent and warming finish. A tad too sticky on palate for me

Sampled at a tasting at Big Z in Huntington, NY - this brewer really seems to be doing a great job, but this one was a strike for me - super dry for the style and abv, which I am fine with - but there is a strong, artificial smoke to it, tasting like burnt rubber to me - had a hard time figuring out if some of this was from the yeast, but there was definitely some peat here - perhaps too much so - some nutty and fruity character - but the burnt eathiness was too much - I usually love smoke character in beer, but this was weird.
