In 2014, Ben, Jonny, Amaey, Doug, and Craig brought Mutiny on the Beagle, an English IPA, to market.

Initial flavours of orange and strawberries gives way to resin and pine notes and a unique lime cordial note. Clean malt backbone with some toffee flavours.

(Cask not keg) clear golden ale. Thin head. Lifht hop aroma. Flavour is hop but there’s an extra sweet edge which I can’t quite place. Finish could have been sickly but they’ve balanced it nicely. Very drinkable. Had it in Drygate where I also tried the keg but it was sharper and I preferred the cask.

Re-rate 18/07/14 The nose was much cleaner on this and was on the next bottle also, so score nudged up by 0.1. Original rating 13/07/14 - 6+4+8+4+15=3.7 Bottle from Appellation Wines. Appearance - orange with a nice lacy head. Nose - green vegetables. Slightly funky note. Then citrus comes through as it blows off. Taste - earthiness loads of hop resin which develops into a dry lime marmalade and then lime and lemon pith on the finish. Palate - medium bodied with a creamy yet tangy texture and a long dry bitter finish. Overall - big texture which brings balance to the big bitter notes.

Bottle from Oddbins. Hazy golden body with a thin off-white head. Lively carbonation. Light lacing. Aroma of grain, pear and apricot. Flavour of orange marmalade, earth, grass and lime. Medium body with an oily texture. Light fizz. Quite Lager like. Doesn’t taste as aggressively hopped as most IPAs.
