Another epic blend of beers not widely seen out side our tasting bar. The base for Track #4 starts off as two freshly emptied barrels which were to be part of our Veritas 009 blend. To these barrels we have married two French Oak red wine barrels that have been harboring Hot Rocks Lager for nearly two years. The base beer sports a deep black color with crimson highlights. Flavors of leather, tobacco and a wine like jammy quality were developed as the base beer.
The addition of Hot Rocks Lager aged in Wine barrels brings a strain of Brettanomyces not normally found in our beers (wine strain we found in the barrels as we did not inoculate them here at the brewery). As is our hope for all these blends, the sum of all the parts has yielded great results. Perhaps one of the more subtle yet harmonious blends to date for our brewers, this one promises to deliver another great Lost Abbey experience.

Mega Tasting at Bruce’s pad. Opaque dark brown beer, small bubbly pale tan head. Palate is light with fine carbonation. Bitterish dark chocolate. Wood. Light Flemish red sourness. Bitterish and somewhat salty brett. Finishes semi dry and bitter. Doesn’t fully come together for me but it’s tasty enough.

Bottle, generously shared by Kenny at the BIG Friday tasting. It pours near black with a medium beige head. The nose is toast, roasty, meatiness, liquorice and some tangy dark fruits. The taste is tangy fruits, berry, jam, toast, roasted malt, cardboard, vinous, balsamic vinegar and some bitterness. Medium body and fine - moderate carbonation. Unfortunately no great depth to it. Decent, but one of the poorest of the box set.

Bottle @ The Lost Tasting Of Abbey Beers, Odense 2013. Pours dark brown - nearly black with a bubbly head. Nose is oak, red wine, dark fruit and caramel. Flavor is oak, toffee, caramel, vanilla and a whiff of alcohol. Not the most refined perhaps - but quite tasty.

Bottle @ The Lost Tasting Of Abbey Beers, Odense 2013. Near black with a tiny off-white head. Malty aroma with toffee, cherry and licorice, and plenty of brettanomyces. Sweet malty flavour with licorice and spice, and lots of hot alcohol. Has more than a touch of fernet branca character
