Reviewed from notes.
The appearance was a semi-dark red/slightly brown color with a sly film of a tan head. Sly messy lace.
The aroma had some sweet malts, earthy hops, candy sugar, raisins/plums, and touches some light spices - somewhat like ginger but slightly like allspice.
The flavor leans towards the sweet side through the previously mentioned aromas. Mostly sweet aftertaste of the sugars and raisins/plums. Sweet malty finish.
The feel was about medium bodied with a fair grip on my tongue, between sessionable and sipping quality. Good carbonation and the ABV felt fine.
Overall, Belgian strong ale or English strong ale? Some sort of odd combination or perhaps the brewer’s creative take on this one. I’m not sure, maybe again.

On tap at the source Pours a dark reddish brown color with a decent tan head that shows minimal retention and lace. Smells of sweet malts, candy sugar, earthy hops, hints of dark fruit and lemon with a fair amount of spicy Belgian yeast esters. Taste is malt and sugary sweet with enough hops to call but never to raise. Sweet brown sugar with hints of dark sticky sugary fruit countered by a moderate level of earthy hop flavor. Yeasty phenolic and a hint of lemon remind us we are Belgian inspired. I couldn’t find any rose hops in this, but I’m not sure if I would know what they were when I found them anyhow. Medium body and carbonation level with a sweet almost syrupy mouthfeel. Decent brew, I really enjoyed this.

on tap-pours a rich retaining light tan head that laces and cloudy orange/brown color. Aroma is medium malt-caramel, yeast, medium/dark fruit. Taste is rich medium malt-caramel/anise, yeast, spice, medium/dark fruit, secondary metallic/earthy hops. Full side of medium body. Occasional. A Belgian Golden/Dubbel?
