Track 9′s origins trace back to a few barrels of Cuvee de Tomme that didn’t mature in time for the 2011 release. We held these back to let them age a while longer and later opted to add currants to the mix to see what would happen.
Left to nature’s devices, the currants married into the raisin and cherry already present in the beer and created a full-bodied fruit intensity we hadn’t quite expected. Liking what we tasted, we decided to bump the melange with an addition of Brettanomyces for a little extra oomph. The results are a unique blend that delivers a great combination of plummy fruits, round malts and just enough funk to remind you Brett’s in the house and doing her thing.

Bottle @ The Lost Tasting Of Abbey Beers, Odense 2013. Pours ruby amber with a small creamy head. Nose is funk, wood and cherries. Acidic. Tart and dry flavor with notes of dark fruit, cherries, brett and dust.

Bottle pours with a murky brackish amber sort of brown hued body that supports a tan head of foam. The aroma offers up rich earthy currants, a modest degree of cherry tartness and then faint yeastiness. Wow, this smells terrific as I’m really enjoying the currant and earthy notes. The taste delivers currant and cherry tartness with a pleasing thick currant and cherry meat sensation moving into some red wine like tartness. Wow! Between these flavors is an earthy note that helps keep together and ground the whole experience. Delicious.

Shared at a Lost Abbey Track tasting. Poured a cola color, some small tan head here. Aroma is some sweet notes. Some booze and some berriies and whatnot. Not too bad here.

Sampled from the tap at FOBAB 2012. Pours a clear deep ruby amber with a light yellowish brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has notes of sour berries with light funk and some underlying light grain. Flavor starts with earthy funk and has a light fruit note with a growing tartness through the finish.
