Deceptive Black IPA: It looks like a stout but tastes like an IPA. We generously hop this beer with El Dorado and Mosaic.

Pours mahogany tinged brown into a shaker. Tan head with excellent retention recedes leaving bubbly lacing. Sweet citrus, caramel, pine, and mocha aromas. Sharp and dry with chocolate, pine, and charred bitter caramel in the lasting finish.

Can pour into tulip glass from The City, Plaistow. Appearance is cloudy dark reddish-brown with 1.5-finger width beige rocky foamy head with good retention and nice soapy lacing. Aroma is pine, grapefruit, citrus, light toasted malts, tropical fruit and musky funk. Taste is tropical fruit, grapefruit, pine with late bready malt backbone. Palate is light-to-medium bodied with smooth texture, average carbonation and bittersweet finish as taste. Overall, a bit tipped toward the hops in the hops/malt balance but decent complexity and other features.

Tap at New England Taphouse Dark brown with great clarity and a thin off white head that persists. Citrus and earth on the nose with bits of roasty bready and light chocolate. Flavor follows the aroma quite well and adds a hint of caramel. Pretty tasty beer.
