Tap @ source. Big & black with a creamy alabaster head. Does not fade. Very nice lacing. This stuff has just a tad of old damp burnt campfire wood in it. In the background lurks some bitter astringency. Yes, could use a little less of that astringent feel on my buds. Overall not too bad. Can’t really detect the cocoa or the peppers. In the end that astringent bite keeps nipping at my palate but all the other pleasant attributes make this a pretty good dark beer. You probably wouldn’t guess this is a 7% beer.

Sampled on draft at the brewpub this beer poured a very dark brown color with a medium sized foamy tan head that left great lacing. The aroma was dry and toasty with a hint of hot pepper and a slightly odd presence I could not place. The flavor was butterscotch, toasty malts, cracker and hot peppers. The hot pepper presence grew with each sip. Long hot pepper and toasty malt finish. Medium body. Different.
