This is our version of a milk stout, originally named Fresh Powder Milk Stout. A milk stout is simply a stout brewed with an addition of Lactose, a non-fermentable milk sugar, used to create sweetness and a fuller body and mouthfeel in the beer. This is the sweetest stout that we brew, not only because of the addition of lactose, but because of the low hop bitterness, and higher residual sugar content. It is very full bodied beer, often perceived as thick and creamy.

Rich, very dark brown coloured body, around 90% opaque with a thick three centimetre tall brown head. Aroma of rich roasted malt, oatmeal, vanilla, oak and some light sugars - strong and a nice relatively light nose. Medium-bodied; Assertive roasted malt, milk, nuts, earth, caramel and a hint of licorice bitterness. Aftertaste shows a nice flavour of milk, vanilla, oak, brown sugar and some minor alcohol flavours. Overall, a good beer for the season - deep malt and richness, but a relatively mild finish and a good milky, sweet taste. Definitely worth trying if you can find this or if you like stouts - this is a good example of a sweet beer. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from New Beer Distributors in New York, New York on 02-November-2013 for US$1.99 sampled at home in Washington on 23-January-2014.

Location: 12 oz bottle from Buy Rite, 1/16/13

Aroma: The nose has some roasted malts, some chocolate notes, and some hints of ash as well
Appearance: This one pours a dark brown color with a small light brown head and some light lace
Flavor: The taste is roasty, with a little sweetness, burnt and ashy notes, and a some mild bitterness
Palate: The body is medium-full, though certainly not as full bodied, thick, and creamy as the description suggested. It also has plus carbonation, which takes away from the expected creaminess
Overall Impression: Overall, I found this one to be decent, but it wasn't a favorite for me. I don't have a ton to criticize or a ton to love. It's fine.

Bottle. Chocolate malt and light ash aroma. Dark brown with minimal head. Mildly sweet dark chocolate and lightly bitter herbal hops/ash flavor. Body pretty light. Not bad but not much there.
