This IPA uses a substantial amount of a New Zealand varietal of hop called Rakau (Rah-kow). Just like many other New Zealand hops, Rakau has a great fruitiness that is tropical and a bit citrusy, as well as a piney spice. We also used Mosaic and Centennial to balance the Rakau with a more classic American character.

The beer is an orangey yellow color. Somewhat cloudy. Soapy white head. Some lacing. The aroma has a lot of tropical citrus flavor. It’s a bit heavy with citrus rind oiliness. Some bubblegum. Pine, tangerine, pineapple, grass. Moderate bitterness. Good hop flavor but it’s not quite as bright and juicy as I’d like. Hop oily. A bit lower than normal carbonation. Solid enough. I think I’m just not a huge fan of the hop varietal.
