SF Beer Week 2014, City Beer Store. Pours a bright medium gold. The liquid is clear. Big sticky white head that lasts for quite awhile. It’s all hop with a whole bunch of different flavors knocking around. There are berries, grass, grapes, a big herbal note and peppercorn. The herbal note gives the beer a fairly unusual tone, compared to many IPAs. The taste is rather dry with medium to strong bitterness for the strength of the beer. Solid hop flavor throughout with more emphasis on that herbal, spicy note. The mouthfeel is quite light, almost overly so, with some good hop oiliness. Overall, it’s a very good beer, which shouldn’t be terribly surprising for an IPA from Beachwood BBQ, but almost a touch harsh, and I can’t say that I loved the hop flavor, though it was interesting.

On tap at City Beer in February 2014. Clear orange with a small white head. Hoppy with tropical fruit, hay, cookies and some caramel. The finish was dry and quite bitter. Good work.

On tap at the Brewpub. Pours with a crystal clear golden hue with a giant and lasting white head with good lace. Aromas are of tropical fruit, mango, papaya, tangelo, light alcohol. Dry, floral, grassy, juicy fruit. Awesome aroma! Flavors show some perceived sweet fruit hop character, grassy, medium to low bitterness. Tropical fruit, citrus zest, clean and crisp. One of (if not) the best IPA’s that Julian has made (and he makes very impressive IPAs).
