The perfect blend of coffee pot aroma, almond and chocolate indulgence. This deliciously prepared beer is a true homage to all that is wonderful about Italy’s café culture.

Bottle from Morrisons, Eccles. Reddish-brown coloured with no head. Has plenty of coffee in both aroma and taste, but there’s lots of marzipan in here as well and this lingers long in its aftertaste.

Bottle. Morrisons. 99p. Dark red. Thin, lasting, tan head. Amaretto my arse. This is just almond essence dumped into a sweet, brown ale. Like the hazelnut one, this stinks. Horrid, sweet, artificial nonsense. A million miles away from a pint of hand pulled XB in the Poachers in Nottingham. Stop it now.

(Bottle) Deep red brown, no head. Dominant aroma of almonds, marzipan with coffee hints. Palate is light smooth velvety. Tasty, but a long way from what beer tastes like. Marzipan with coffee hints and some balancing tartness. Glad I tried it, but couldn’t drink a lot.

Bottle from Morrisons in Hatch End. A dark brown coloured pour with virtually no head to speak of. Sweet, almond, mocha aroma. Tastes of almond, mocha, slight coffee. Loved the aroma on this one but the taste didn’t really match it.

Bottle at the Hog and Partridge, St Neots. Dark brown, translucent, with a good-sized tan head. Amaretto dominates the aroma. A bit of white spirit and steel accompanies, but this is all about the sweet candied almond scent. The taste, meanwhile, is dominated by the mocha, but the blend is much more balanced than in the Bateman’s Mocha. Sweet milky coffee is met by a slightly astringent hoppy bitterness. Carbonation is nice. I really enjoyed this despite myself.

Bottle 33 cl. Pours a clear, reddish brown with a dissipating off-white head. Intense, artificial Amaretto aroma. Medium body, again these intense Amaretto cherry notes - at least not overly sweet. Dry finish, but gets a little cloying. 150115
