(Draught at Brydens, Toronto, Nov 29 2013) Pours a completely clouded medium orange with brownish hints, small white cap of fine bubbles, no lace. Aroma is banana from the yeast, slight bubblegum sweetness, mild spice and a bit of wet conifer needle from the hops. Flavour has pale malt sweetness, some banana, wet grass, quite yeasty. Towards the finish it dries out, pine needles/resin, light spicebox, yeasty. Body is medium-light, carb heavy and aggressive. This isn’t bad by any means, but it is not the best hoppy weizen either, and I feel the use of Chinook to play up the conifer aspect rather than more fruity hops to work with the yeast wasn’t the best decision.

Pas mauvaise mais bien trop acidulée et ne ressemble pas vraiment à son style. Plus près d’une Saison...

First Trou du Diable at the LCBO. Pours a cloudy yellow-amber colour with lots of particles floating. Big white frothy head, very long lasting and with loads of patchy lacing. The wheat and banana notes come out at first, but then, the hop takes over. It also is quite present in the taste, creating a decent dry mouthfeel with some nice bitterness. Grassy flavours with some fruity malts in the background. A nice brew that has the wheat of a Hefe and the hoppiness of an American IPA.

Bottle: Poured a deep copper color ale with a large foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma consists of citrus and floral hops from the Chinook are dominant. Taste is also dominated by the hoppy notes form the Chinook with some citrus and floral notes. Body is about average with good carbonation. I thought this was an APA all along; the hops level overshadows the wheat notes.

600mL bottle, sent from wilco (thanks a lot, Mike), pours a hazy golden with a small white head. Nose brings out floral notes, a little wheat, some banana, and clove. Flavour brings out loads of wheat, some clove, a touch of banana, and some dry citrusy hops. Pretty dry and lifeless, with dominating notes of clove and wheat. Pretty simplistic and boring, but decent enough. Okay.

Pretty good beer from a style I love. Pours clear copper with extra appearance points for creamy head, some lacing. Aromas of booze, yeast and some sweet malt. Some floral hops as well. Medium to thick consistency. Carbonation slightly below average. Taste just a touch of boozy sweetness and eve less sourness. Well balanced and good, though not among best weizenbocks Ive had.

Banana & cloves mixed with resiny hops. Plush fruit, grapefruit minus the acidic bitterness with tangerines and a touch of honey.

A orange amber ale with a thick onctuous lacing off white head. In aroma, a nice crisp grassy floral hops, nice and herbal, light coriander. In mouth, a smooth saison-like ale with light fruity esters, light but nice. On tap at Bieres et Saveur, Sept.3 2011.

Draught at Churchkey. Cloudy orange yellow, thick white had with great lacing. Aroma of baked bread. Taste has plenty of malt but a good dose of hops, so caramel flavors with a biter finish. Good stuff.
