Stiegl beer of the month: 9.3-24.4.2011
(Translated from German)
Takes 40 days of Lent, had to be followed during the Middle Ages very strict rules: one was allowed to eat or drink anything other than three bites of bread and three sips of water. Since beer was in the monasteries as a staple food, the pope eased in the 16th Century, the rules and published in an encyclical to the principle: "Liquid not break the fast!"
Some monks had therefore a divine inspiration and invented the Fast nutritious beer, from which they were allowed to take three daily moderation. Now it was possible to supply beer by the vital nutrients without taking solid food. Because of its full-bodied flavor, it is also known as "liquid bread" known. The unit of measure for a "measure", however, was decided by the abbot and extended from the thimble to the 1-liter jug. Who now makes almost three measures of beer, which is however still caution: The alcohol content in beer is our Fast vol at 7.5%.! 17.5°
