500ml bottle. Murky burgundy-brown body. Foamy beige head laces the glass. Piny, alcohol laced aroma. A pretty solid Barleywine, rich and syrupy, but also relatively balanced. Some underlying fruity tones. Classic flavors, maybe leaning a little into US stylistic tendencies with the significant hops...which come off a touch muted/aged...floaties help to confirm that this wasn’t brewed last month...but has aged relatively gracefully. Pretty solid offering, but nothing above and beyond, which the price sort of insinuates.

On tap at Apex, pours a hazy copper / amber with almost no head. Aroma of dried fruits (raisins in particular) and toffee - quite sweet. Flavour brings out exceedingly sweet caramel / toffee, dried fruits and no hops at all - lots of residual sugar. Not very refined and quite cloyingly sweet. Drinkable in small portions.

Bottle. Pours with a clear ruby bronze hue with a lasting off white head. Aromas are of sherry and rose water, lots of esters, strawberry, chewy caramel, alcohol, dates, raisins, dark fruit, biscuity. Flavors are sweet, a decently strong caramel presence, but also biscuity and a caramel notes. Some orange notes, marmalade, brandy, alcohol. Citrus and dark fruit. Medium carbonation with fuller carbonation. Warming. A solid Barleywine, despite my mood not favoring barley wines recently.

Bottle from Monument in Concord, CA. Pours nearly opaque ruddy copper with a decent creamy beige head. Primary aroma is brown sugar, but there seems to be a fair amount of hop. Full bodied. Flavor is brown sugar with a lot of bitter. Mostly citrus/herb/floral? Heat not an issue til the ale hits the gullet. Warms the tum. Finishes slightly sweet, but with all the bitter it’s really a great drink. Highly recommended.

Pours deep amber into a snifter. Off-white head with little retention recedes to mottle surface. Stale caramel and nut aromas. Thick with toffee and caramel upfront turning to hot bitter roasted nuts and resin in the lasting finish.
