Blacklight IPA is the first of six Widmer Brothers limited release collaboration beers with Oregon breweries to be released this year as part of a series that commemorates Widmer Brothers’ 30 years of brewing beer. The collaboration series is a celebration of the brewery’s 30th anniversary, the Oregon brewing community and the unique camaraderie between craft brewers.
Blacklight IPA is a hop-forward, sessionable 4.2 percent ABV black ale with a heavy dose of five different hop varieties and stained black with cold-steeped dark malts. The beer focuses on big hop flavor and aroma, without the harsh bitterness and heavy roast that the beer’s dark color suggests.

Bottle @ CBC 2014. Pours dark brown with a offwhite head. Aroma of light roasted malt, light hops, grapefruit, pine. Flavor is rather weak, some malts, little roast, stale piney hops, little grapefruit. Thin to medium body, average carbonation, light bitter finish. 030514

Draught at Brews Almighty, Everett, 4.8% ABV
Dark brown color. It has a nice aroma of resiny hops, dry mouthfeel, even weak, very dry, with some roasty (almost ashy) malts and strong resiny hops.
Not bad, but a bit chaotic.

Sampled from bottle @ CBC thanks to someone. Reddish brown color, small off-white to beige head. Smell and taste are thin, faint, slightly hops, slightly malts. Like water with just the slightest flavor added. Pretty bad.

Bomber from LetsPour.com. Pours very dark brown with a slight tan head. Aroma is rather citrus. Med + body. Flavor is floral/citrus/spice. Not really very much burnt malt or chocolate. Maybe a hint. Certainly malt backbone, but not exactly caramel. I’m starting to imagine a touch of coffee. Anyway, it’s unusual, hoppy, pretty dry, bitter and tasting good.
