One of a whole series of one-offs by Fantôme, this one, I believe, from 2002; all of them have been brewed for the Heikantse Bierliefhebbers but profits go to charity. Vintage tasted in 2009. Off-white, quickly opening head (typical for an old beer), warm amber colour. Oxidized aroma with clear cardboard apart from notes of lemon juice, caramel, hay, rhubarb, overripe peach, walnuts. Pretty sharp lemony acidid onset, nutty malts, hints of sherry, gooseberry, sour cream, jute, soft floral hop bitter finish, slick mouthfeel, retronasal tartness and oxidation. Didn’t stand the test of time too well but still feisty like all other Fantôme brews - and being an amateur of this brewery’s products, I willingly ignore the oxidized flavours.

Bottle at Fastelavn Smagning 2014 @ J&C’s beer palace, Jutland Saturday Session 1 - 01/03/14. Golden amber with little in the way of a head. Nose is lightly oxidised, mellow fruits, apple core, woody musty tones, pinch of spice. Taste comprises papery notes, dark fruits, more oxidisation, fruit peel, hint of spice, straw. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Probably the poorest of the bunch, all numbers lower than this had aged more gracefully.

Bottle, 75cl. 2001 vintage. A more or less flat one, dark golden in color, clear. The aroma is pretty weak, with some caramel, honey and oxidation. Some lemony hints. The flavor has the same caramel and honey, and a touch of lemony sourness. Medium body, quite dry, with more or less no carbonation. Carbonation and lemon towards the end. One of the most boring of the Santé series so far. 140301
