Last brewed by Younger’s of Edinburgh in 1841. This beer is similar to a Russian Imperial Stout due to the large amount of brown malt used.

330ml bottle from cornelius, Edinburgh, shared with jeevan. Pours jet black, tiny tan head, light bubbly lacing. Aromas of liquorice, leather, molasses, burnt sugar. Rich, sweet taste, followed by a roasted bitterness, with more chocolate. Great sipper.

Bottle from Cornelius. Black body with a small tan head that quickly fades. No lacing. Aroma of black chocolate, prune, wood smoke, yeast and blackcurrant. Boozy flavour of roasted malt and liquorice lifted by a sharp, tangy plum edge. Sweet, but not overly so. The flavour lingers long after each sip. Full body with a thick, oily texture. Soft carbonation. A sensational beer - rich and complex.
