Based on an ancient Welsh beer style called bragawd, Bragging Rights is a lightly golden pale ale. The addition of honey, followed by a blend of nutmeg, coriander, black pepper, cloves, cinnamon and ginger, create a refreshing beer that is initially sweet yet spicy at the same time.

Bright amber. Aroma is very sweet and bubblegummy. Palate is a bit more balanced, but still quite a bit sweeter than I would like. Braggot benefits from letting the honey ferment out all the way, leaving a stronger but better-balanced beer.

Hand-pulled half-pint in ’Chequers’ Oxford on 23rd Nov 13 during a mega pub crawl. Poured a golden orange with a slight haze, on top a white coating of bubbles. The nose was a blend of toffee apple and ginger nut biscuits. The taste had a semi-sweet malty, fruity start, mild ginger notes along with other spice flavours arrived mid-mouthful. Not sure I picked up any honey, but as I said, it was fairly sweet initially and that sweetness should have been enhanced by the addition of honey in the brew. OK rather than great: different for sure and I enjoyed it.

Cask at the Argyll Arms, Nicholson’s - London. Pours clear gold with a foamy white head. The aroma is apples and vague spices. Light to medium sweet flavor with a dominant cider character, some straw, hints of dry white bread. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Sweet, fruity finish with more apples, mild pale malts, hints of tangy lemon. Odd stuff. (November 2013, score: 3.0)
Draft at GBBF 2013, day 3 - London. Pours clear gold with a light, white foam head. The nose holds white bread, some banana. Medium sweet flavor with light berries, honey essence, banana, faint cinnamon. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Sweet finish with pale bread, hints of spices, ripe banana. So so. (August 2013, score: 3.2)

Bottled. Weak yellow. Lager malt aroma with plentiful honey. A bit of sweet spice, bananas. Taste is a mixed bag: not nice to start with, lovely sweet middle, and a sickly bitter finish and aftertaste. A bit odd. Basically a honey beer with added flavours.
