Tallboy, pours opaque black with dark tan head. Full bodied and creamy. Licorice and roasted malt aroma. Cocoa licorice and dark fruit taste, with milk chocolate finish. Excellent!

Can shared at Embargo, Phnom Penh. Poured a clear dark brown colour with a mostly lasting frothy light tan head. The aroma is roasty malt, toffee caramel, liqourice. The flavour is moderate to strong sweet, with a smooth, rich, roasty, sweet, sticky, treacle toffee, light red berry fruit, light boozy alcohol palate. Medium to full bodied with soft carbonation.

Near black with a small tan head. Aroma of chocolate, cocoa powder, toffee and coffee. Flavour is light heavy sweet. Full bodied with soft carbonation.

Can. 9.5% ABV. A minimal sized tan head forms over a black body. Rather oily pour. The aroma has loads of licorice and brown sugar, with roasted malts, burnt notes, molasses, raisin and cocoa. Seems to me there's quite a lot of oats too, but the ingredients list says no. It's full-bodied, pleasantly warming and with a soft carbonation. Definitely not dry on the palate, and some bitterness show up to deal with the sugars. Some coating in the roof of the mouth. Roasted malts, molasses, dark chocolate, some cocoa and cocoa nibs, a vague vanilla-like touch, some dried fruits and burnt malts. Lasting sweet and malt driven finish, definitely on the dark side. A delicious beer indeed. 191222

Can at home. Pitch black pour with a velvety tan head. Notes of licorice, roasted malts, roasted coffee beans, dark cherries, smooth honey. Silky-smooth texture, overall nicely balanced.

Sampled at Churchkey's FiftyFifty event, pours a dark brown with some sudsy, grey head. Big bready nose, pumpernickel, rye, malt, some licorice. Flavor is sweet, malty, bready, some caramel. Finishes sticky.

Finally I've had a chance to experience the base beer that spawned 5,000 gimmicks. And now everything makes sense. Smoke and lots of caramel. Elements don't hang together super well. Sugary. Some leather but elements don't mesh super well. Black pour with good mocha head and lacing. Very sweet finish. Putting this stuff in a barrel is only going to perpetuate its failings. Times 5,000. Or let's say 2,500 - 50 times 50. Tap at Churchkey.
