Introduced in 1963 by the Baltimore, Maryland-based National Brewing Company, Colt 45 was named in honor of running back Jerry Hill, who was #45 on the 1963 Baltimore Colts football team. Through high-profile partnerships with actor Billy Dee Williams and comedian Redd Foxx — who both appeared in radio, print, and TV advertisements – Colt 45 established itself as the premier malt liquor beverage by the early 1970s.

Bottle. Pours old gold with white head. Nose is skunk, malt, budget grains and snow. Taste is the same. Finishes skunky, but smoother than expected.

Pored from a 40 oz. Clear yellow, ¼ inch white head. Smells like nothing. Not much in the way of taste. Light malt. Not as bad as I thought it would be. “ I can’t think of a better way to celebrate the 4th of July then with a smooth, icy Colt 45.” -Billy Dee Williams-

24oz can poured into my hotel plastic cup, pours light gold with a thin whtie head. Aroma is plae grain, corn, doughy. Flavor is sweet corn, doughy malts again like a light bread. Eh.

24 oz can purchased somewhere in Mission, Kansas. Poured into my Duvel tasting tulip. Pour is a clear golden with a fizzy two inch white head that falls quickly with soapy residue. Aroma is strong corn, dusty malt, along with some plastic. Taste is sweet malt, pretty harsh corn and a strong plastic wet newspaper type taste to the middle and finish. After taste is similarly dirty, and, frankly gross. Palate is thin, sort so fizzy foamy carbonation and the plastic aftertaste. This has the rare combination of being watery and boozy.

Bottle, 40oz. Pours clear gold with a mild, fizzy white head. Aroma of sweet cereal grains and sugar. Flavor is sweet with notes of syrupy sugar, corn and grains. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Finishes sweet. Like most Malt Liquors, this beer is fine to drink as long as it stays cold.

Forty. No paper bag. Pours a very pale yellow with a thin creamy head. Decent head retention and fair lacing. Harsh grainy aroma with notes of sawdust and dirt. Taste is dirty water. Faint sweet malts and cereal grains. Nasty crap. Next!

Overall Impression: This is pretty crappy, I mean its a malt liquor, you buy it in a 40, how good could it be? Even in that class, this is not one of the better ones...

24 oz can - Since Billy Dee Williams says this beer works every time, I had to have it for my 1400th rating. Why yes, it sucks, thanks for asking. It smells like a bit of corn and malt. It has a very light flavor that’s mainly the corn and cheap malt. It’s thin, watery, and at least not as horribly offensive as Hurricane. There’s just nothing going on here.
