Introduced in 1963 by the Baltimore, Maryland-based National Brewing Company, Colt 45 was named in honor of running back Jerry Hill, who was #45 on the 1963 Baltimore Colts football team. Through high-profile partnerships with actor Billy Dee Williams and comedian Redd Foxx — who both appeared in radio, print, and TV advertisements – Colt 45 established itself as the premier malt liquor beverage by the early 1970s.

473ml can, 5.6%. Clear amber colour, frothy white foam head that diminishes leaving alittle lacing and weak malt aroma. Similar malty flavour, sweetish, with grain, corn and a metallic note. Smoothish but watery mouthfeel, light body, highly carbonated, bland finish.

Ha! I should have checked the bottom of the can. Aug 31, 09! Surprisingly, it's not a drain pour.

Can, 24oz. A clear, golden beer topped by a small, white head. The aroma has a healthy dose of cooked vegetables, along with some pale malts and fruityness. Not very interesting. The same can be said of the flavor, where a little bitterness and alcohol chimes in. Slightly warming on the palate, soft carbonation. Lasting finish with DMS and alcohol. Still, far from the worst malt liquor I’ve had. 130804

24 oz can: Clear gold with a frothy white head. Sweet corn malt aroma. Taste is mildly sweet, papery, creamy grain. Actually quite soft and mild. Much better than I remembered, honestly.

24 ounce can! Pours a super clear yellow color with a small white head. A light sweet nose of corn and odd grains. Sweet adjuncts, corn and honey, a bit of dirty water, sweat. Pretty smooth though frankly, and drinkable.

Tall boy canned @ home picked up at Argonaut for $1.79 poured into my Avery Sour Fest snifter. Pours a clear golden appearance with a small white head. Corn, lemon, and cotton candy in the nose. Chewy cornmeal, grain, quite sweet flavor. Drinkable but I’ve had better malt liqueurs. Not sure if I’ve ever had this before, but its unlikely I’ll ever have it again.

22oz bottle poured into a snifter. Pours a clear dark gold with a half finger of thick white head. Aroma of grains and corn with a little skunk and some green apple. Taste is light sweet. Corn and grains with cotton candy and green apple. Medium bodied with a slightly sticky texture. Lively carbonation and a long finish. Overall, not bad. I’ve had much worse.
