Sample at the Hills Market beer tasting on 07/25/2013. The beer is a clear gold-amber color with a medium off-white head that diminishes steadily. Strings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of floral hops, citrus and malt. Light to medium body with a citrusy hops flavor and notes of caramel and malt. The finish is moderately bitter with a hoppy aftertaste. Decent overall

On tap @ Basil’s in Appleton. Clear amber in color with a thin white head. Sweet caramel malt aroma... not a good sign. The taste is sweet caramel malt and some piney hops. Pretty average, nothing really jumps out at you, I’ll pass.

Paid $8.99 for a six pack at my local Market Basket. English pint shows a hazy gold color with little retention. Aroma of Pine hops and light pale malt. Yeah, the flavor is just the same as the nose with touches of citrus. It’s a real standard APA, “Run of The Mill” stuff here. It is easy to drink without any problems at all. Just real boring.

Bottle from Malt & Vine. Pours clear copper with a slight white head. Aroma seems very floral with a possible citrus touch. Flavor starts very floral and then develops fruit that seems tropical. Then a little caramel is detectible. The malt’s a little unroasty for an APA, and tho it’s nicely hoppy, it’s not very bitter. On the other hand the bitter builds with time. Odd and tasty ale.

Crisp copper coloured body with a light bronze glow and a nice two centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of light grassy and herbal hops with a very light cardboardie malt scent and some water with earth mixed in. Medium-bodied; Nice crisp caramel flavour with some light fruits tucked in and following with some grassy, herbal and piney hop flavours. Aftertaste shows a smooth finish with some light fruits, a bit of hops and a good sweetness. Overall, a nice balance and some pleasant hops while remaining relatively light-bodied and crisp. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Harris Teeter in Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia on 17-June-2013 for US$8.49/6pack sampled here at home in Washington on 21-June-2013.

12 ounce bottle from Whole Foods Charlottesville. Pours a clear amber color with a large tan head. Good retention and lacing. Aroma of caramel malts, floral and citrus hops. The taste is floral, citrus and piney hops with toasted caramel malts. Medium bodied, slightly hop forward.

Hops are this are dominantly citrus, especially orange peel, and in some sense, give a tartness that is not unlike drinking orange juice, mixed with beer, and that is where this beer falls apart. While the underlying malts had a nice toasty breadiness to them, the orange juice hops just detracted all the way through.

On tap at the Mountain Brewers’ Fest 2013. Pours a clear copper color with a medium white head. A sweet floral nose with some biscuit. Very clean and fruity hop flavors, light crisp earthy malt. Good.
