De Dude

Imperial milk stout from a brewery in Harlingen, thanks Craftmember! Membranously lacing, pale greyish beige, dense and moussy head, black robe with hazy burgundy-brown edges. Aroma of fresh black coffee, butterscotch, bayleaf, toasted walnuts, light beef stock cube somewhere, dry hay, bitter chocolate bars, dried tea leaves, wet toast, cloves, liquorice, nutmeg, leather. Sweetish onset, some dried fig, nutty from the start with a sourish undertone of dried blackcurrant, softish carbo, thick and oily, full body without being very creamy (admittedly I was expecting a bit more creaminess due to the added lactose). Nuttiness goes on through the middle phase, pleasantly bittersweet with the bittering, black toast-like aspect more prominent towards the finish, where pleasant spicy and hoppy bitter notes appear alongside a warming, whisky-like but nowhere astringent alcohol effect. I don't quite get the "milk" part in this imperial milk stout, but other than that, this is a very decent, albeit somewhat 'generic' strong stout.

8 4 7 3 15 Draft @ Burg BF ’17. 10.5% on the blackboard. Nearly black color. Dense beige head with a thin layer retention. Aroma’s of roasted malts, chocolate, a bit fruity. Retronasal it’s roasted, sweet, chocolate, light fruit. Flavor is lactose sweet with light fruit. Medium bodied. Soft silky mouthfeel. Long finish, no new flavors. Nice.

Bierfestival Groningen 2017, Martinikerk, van tap, donkerbruin tot zwart met bruine kraag. aroma van vanille, geroosterde en gebrande mout, chocolade, lactose, zoet. Smaken zijn werkelijk enorm zoet, iets uitgeschoten met de lactose denk ik, vanille, geroosterd, gebrand, matige tot redelijke body, zacht/smooth, verder ok alleen wat te zoet. Tweede keer direct bij de brouwer van tap, lactose/zoetigheid is meer in balans. Mooie melkchocolade smaken. Prima.
