Draft at the Euston Tap, London at the Second Birthday Party. Pours cloudy, rich gold with a fine, white cream head. Toasty malt nose. Medium sweet flavor with piney bitterness and definite chocolate character. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Modestly sticky finish with some gooey chocolate, more pine. Interesting stuff. The beer really does what it says on the tin. It is most certainly NOT a black IPA or even close to it. It is a straight-ahead IPA with chocolate notes. If it sounds odd, that’s because it is. Which isn’t to say the beer was bad - quite the contrary: if you’re going to make a "chocolate IPA" I think this is probably just about the best you can hope for.
