This is our interpretation of Amigos Británicos - a beer originally brewed in Vermont to celebrate years of brewing friendships forged in the UK. Together with our former Head Brewer Ryan (under his own new guise of Casita Cervecería) and Logan from Beavertown, we devised this adventurous ale with lime, honey and fresh Santa Fe Grande chilli peppers. Here’s to nights that become the stuff of legends and friends, wherever you may find them!

Bottle, many thanks minutemat. Hazy orange color with small white head. Aroma is chili, lime, dough. Taste is chili, earthy, dough, lime. Fizzy carbonation. Not bad, it has a lot of chili flavour without actually being hot. Not much honey, though...

Minimal off white head soon left a skim on a hazy dark golden body. Minimal aroma. Thin, crisp, clean, minimal carbonation. Tea, tea, tea bitter herb, pepper chili, spicy.

Bottle at home, mailorder from the brewery. Odd aroma, but I guess it’s what you get when you mix lime, honey and chilli - the latter being the most prominent. An orange tinted gold. The head lasted about 3 seconds. Not off to a good start! Bitter. Although there is a hint of sweetness and citrus at first. The chilli then takes control. Light bodied. Oily. Minimal carbonation. Long dry finish. For me this is an experiment gone wrong. The chilli is just too much for the other elements. I’ll finish it but not particularly enjoy it.

12/II/17 - 33cl bottle from Bierhalle Deconinck (Vichte) @ Big Polish Diacetyl Tasting, home - BB: 20/IX/17 (2017-175) Thanks to ElManana for sharing the bottle!

Cloudy orange beer, small irregular off-white head, unstable, dissipates quickly, non adhesive. Aroma: chilli, yeast, cumin, spicy, dry and dusty. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: bit lemony, coriander, spicy, slightest hint of chilli. Aftertaste: citrus, zesty, bit sourish, spicy, orange peel, little sweet. Not super, but interesting to say the least.

33cl bottle from the Grumpy Goat, Reading. A slightly hazy amber pour with a ring of off-white head; farmyard aroma; quite lively in the mouth with a sweet honey taste, and a touch of chilli warmth; then some lime as the heat starts to mellow; then a somewhat yeasty finish. A bit of a novelty, not something I’d want to try again.

330ml bottle. Pours pale without much head. Nice and light palate, with enough carbonation to keep the flavours popping. Plenty of lime, dry gooseberry, black pepper. Some heat in there and a sweet honey finish. Cut beautifully through the rich risotto I’d made for dinner. Very tasty.
