Nose is syrup, toffee apples, slight smoke, sticky toffee pudding, brown sugar, alcohol, raisins, bread. Taste, toffee apples, brandy, brown sugar, burnt sugar in the finish, is a little light on some of the flavours. Mouthfeel is thick and creamy. A delicious barley wine, which is not hugely complex, but really delivers on it’s strengths.

(Bottle, 0.33 l - BBE Jun 2015, at Porvoon Kekri ’12, 20121026) The beer poured mahogany coloured and clear. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had malts, molasses and sweetness. Palate was full bodied and warming with medium carbonation. Flavours were malts, sweetness, molasses, hops and bitterness. Aftertaste was sweet, malty and bitter. Not too sweet barley wine which was good but the taste was also somewhat harsh and raw. Aging might soften the unpleasant characteristics.

Bottle @ home [from trade with SaintMatty]. Slightly unclear amber color, small beige head. Smell medium to heavy maltyness, slightly hops, sweetness and some sugar. Taste malts, slightly alcohol, sweetness, dried fruits, raisin, some bitterness as well. Doesn’t taste like most barleywines imo, but it’s solid. Medium carbo, medium body.

Smell is sweet and full bodied with caramel, plums, ripe grapes, lemon zest, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla and alcohol. Taste is sweet, tiny bitter, tiny sour and tiny yeasty with caramel, bread, fudge, wood, lemon peal, prunes, raisins, grass and alcohol. Mouthfeel is tiny watery and medium bodied.

Bottled. A dark amber beer with a thin off-white head. The aroma has notes of alcohol, caramel, and bread. The flavor is sweet with notes of alcohol, malt, caramel, metal, and bread, leading to a dry alcoholic finish. Not as good as the old version.
