Gravity cask at the Yateley Cask & Cork Festival. My 100th Surrey rate. An opaque, glossy, near-black, pour with a ring of cream head; rich chocoalte malt aroma; lactic body, with a milky chocoalte taste, that’s pleasantly not sweet; then a milky finish with some lingering lightly done toast. A pleasantly satisfying milk stout.

At GBBF. Thurstons Milk Stout 4.50%  A deep brown/black pour with a tan head. The nose is lovely sweet milky chocolate. Smooth bodied & creamy. The taste is bitter cocoa powder and coffee creamer. Great.

At GBBF. American-influenced milk stout with creamy, light beige, thick head and near black colour. Aroma of espresso, cocoa, milk sugar piercing through here and there, iron. Creamy mouthfeel as usual for the style, dark fruits, caramel accent, bit metallic, some coffeeish roasted malt bitterness in the finish along with peppery hops to round it off. Perhaps a bit thin in texture for a milk stout, but the taste is more than decent.

Draft at the Great British Beer Festival 2014, Day 1 - London. Pours black-brown with a thick, beige cream head. Ash and milk chocolate define this one, with moderate roast, strong dark and bready malts, some burnt marshmallows. Light to medium bodied with fine carbonation. Nice chocolate, dark malt finish. Solid beer. Well balanced with good chocolate character that doesn’t lose control.
