I filled this growler yesterday at the brewery. It has a big thick layer of sediment on the bottom, certainly not filtered and I like it cloudy that way. Pour is the same, a thick swirling cloudy almost chunky opague brown. No head but on the second fill I get a thin head. On the third pour it foams over onto the counter. Some black cherry aroma but mostly a tart olfactory prevails. Initially on the palate it seems a little bitter but thats because I am sensitive to higher alky brews. For 7+% it hides its alky content well and has the feeling of better more refined dubbels from belgie. Much better than most coarse american dubbels. Very nice creamy texture on the tongue and I like those tingly sparkling sensations. Even tho it is a little strong for me as a session brew, it remains refreshing and interesting none the less. Not sure if I can taste cherries at this moment but it is tasty and fun. The only thing I don’t really care for is the strength of this brew’s personality. It comes across like the cherry grizzette but with balls. I really like most of the session brews from EE but this one may perhaps have a bit more personality than I care for. Very enjoyable and different. Would be perfect if it was a little less alky but it wouldn’t be a dubbel then would it? Come to think of it, in the second and third glass I think I’m getting some cherry or fruit in there now. Dizzying effect. Yep, cherry grizzette on steriods. Finish is a tad medicinal but most of you will love this one, go for it before its gone, thanks Scott! Another unique beer from an exceptional local nano brewery.
