Sampled from the tap at the brewpub. Pours black with a brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has strong butterscotch note with dark grains and roasted malts supporting. Flavor is full of sweet dark grains and butterscotch.

Keg at the brewpub. Dark brown, thin creamy tan head, fair retention. Aroma of pure diacetyl and a hint of roast. Taste is diacetyl, dms, roast, caramel. Thin. A mess.

Reviewed from notes.
The appearance was an almost black color with a finger’s worth of eggshell white foamy head that dissipated at a slow pace. Mild lace.
The aroma had some roasted coffee notes, light oatmeal, light dark chocolate nibs and ends with some cereal/grainy sweetness.
The flavor leans to the sweet side and rolls into a smooth sort of oat/grainy aftertaste and on into the finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fair sessionable to sipping sort of quality about it. Roastiness was smoothed out fairly nice by the oatmeal.
Overall, nicely done oatmeal stout well worthy of having again.

Typical H&H background beer aroma, you know, just plain good ol beery. Just a hint of stout smell. Black with a red tinge. Nice tasting stout, it has more carbonation than I expected and I welcome that. Good roasty flavors; fun, fresh and friendly. Much better than I expected, pleasantly surprised! May be my best H&H to date!

On tap at the brewery/restaurant in Escanaba. Nearly opaque deep brown body, thin tight cream head. Sweet chocolate aroma with notes of coffee and modest roast. Sweet body with chocolate and diacetyl buttery notes, the latter thankfully not overpowering. Bitter roast finish. Well-balanced with good bite and mouthfeel. Nice.
