Our award winning dark ale which is an original London style, lighter in body than a stout but with the same alcohol content. Brewed with pale, crystal, chocolate and black malts to create a creamy, smooth, roasted, slightly chocolate tasting ale with a bit of hoppiness in the finish. The name comes from the fact that after brewing, the mash is given to a local farmer and there can't be anything better than spent grain from brewing for fattening up a pig.

Bottle. Dark pour. Aroma has chocolate, licorice, mocha coffee and caramel. Taste of licorice, bitter filter coffee, chocolate, tart, dusty malt and caramel. Tastes like there is something wrong with it. Meh.

Pours brown from the bottle. The head is tan and creamy. Aroma is chocolate, toast, a bit smokey. The roasted character comes nicely across. Taste iis sweet up front, trending bittersweet at the finish. Body stays fairly light for the style, even watery at times, and fails to completely hide the relatively modest alcohol. Drinkable, but not memorable.

Rich deep dark brown coloured body with a thick, three centimetre tall pure brown head. Aroma of rich chocolate, roasted malt, lactose, cream and a good dose of caramel and nuts - strong! Medium-bodied; Assertive nutty flavour of hazlenuts, earth, milk, cream, lactose and even some dry grain noticeable. Aftertaste shows some depth with the caramel and sweetness alongside the bitter nutty and malt flavours - not much aside from that, however. Overall, a good porter and one that shows the roasted malt and earthiness expected from the style, but lacks a touch in complexity and depth. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from my coworker, Randy, on 27-October-2015 for US$9,99/six pack from a grocery Store in Great Falls, Montana sampled at home in [the real] Washington on 24-April-2016.

Not pitch black liquid sitting under a small tannish head of foam.

The nose reveals notes of roasted malt and chocolate. One other thing there; either hints of fruit or something that the hops are creating.

Roasted malt, chocolate, a fruity presence from the hops, a wee bit of coffee. There’s a month and year on the label for notching but I don’t see where it’s been marked.

Full flavoured for sure but it is a bit thin on the palate.

Easy drinking Porter because it’s smooth and packs a nice taste profile. Thanks Jay for the chance to try it!

Dark brown, standard 90s porter nose, a bit fudgey. Sweetish character, and a touch of chocolate. Old skool - if you’re doing this type of thing you really have to nail it, which this doesn’t.
