Our new Pecan Pie Porter no longer uses extract, but rather brown sugar and pecans roasted by friends at The Gallows in Boston. Buddy Hadry, a rep at Bella Vista in PA, gave me the name for this beer, the second Pecan beer now that he has named. Thank you, Buddy!

Bottle courtesy of ”Knä” (non-RB). Pours blackish brown with a creamy and frothy mocha head that leaves a small trace on the glass while dissipating. Taste is slightly sweet, slightly bitter and slightly malty with roasted malts, caramel, dark bread, hay, soil, chocolate, coffee, walnuts, maple syrup and liquorice. Mouthfeel is soft, round, very tiny watery and medium bodied. Finish is tiny sweet, slightly bitter and slightly malty with roasted malts, dark bread, coffee, walnuts, hay, soil, maple syrup and liquorice. Quite good…

Rich deep dark brown coloured body with a thinnish, single centimetre tall light brown head. Aroma of pecans, nuts, earth, malt, figs, raisins and a touch of smoke! Medium to Full-bodied; Strong earthy and nutty flavours at first with a very deep pungent toasty flavour and even more pit fruits noticeable, all with some light caramel and smoked peat notes as well. Aftertaste is rich and complex with the full flavours of nuts and earth really meshing well with the sweetness of the caramel and pit fruits. Overall, a nice porter with a huge nuttiness (expected) and a defined sweet flavour from the caramel and pit fruits (not expected) make this great to drink. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Whole Foods in Alexandria (Old Town), Virginia on 30-March-2014 for US$7.99 sampled at home here in Washington on 15-June-2014.

Bottle at home. Bitter roasted chocolate, dry, light salty pecan, could do with more nutty flavour but its not bad.

Bottle - Molasses and some sweet boozy soapy notes. Jet black with a rich brown head. Dark chocolate and molasses with a light bit of the pecan in the finish. Nice, but not nearly as good as the 512 in regards to pecan flavor.
