Skorpion is a very special ale brewed with our new friends, Nøgne Ø. We put our heads together and decided to brew a beer that combines traditional Norwegian farmhouse and American farmhouse ales. We started with a base of floor malted pilsner, added some toasted barley, and smoked some malted rye in house over saison soaked peach and alder wood. We used an addition of aged hops for an extended boil to represent the old world, and some Calypso hops late in the boil for a more modern take. Tore brought some juniper berries from Norway, as well as traditional kveik yeast sourced from the Ebbegården farm. We fermented the beer with the kveik in second use calvados barrels, then did a secondary fermentation with our farmhouse culture.

Draft at the brewery. Pours slightly hazy copper color with off white head. Aromas of funk, toasted malt, and some berries. Funk, toasted malt, and light smoke flavor with some juniper and spices. Light to medium body with average carbonation.

Tap at brewery. Hazy orange pour foamy head. Nose is grape must, wild yeast and barnyard. Tastes just funky enough. Grapes, hay, fruit gum, barnyard, yogurt. Zippy and peppery finish.
