This NW style sour is a crisp, refreshing wheat beer that was barrel-aged for seven months then additionaly aged with strawberries for another eight months. Bright, sweet strawberries and light candy notes greet you in the nose. A light tartness and berry sweetness intermingle on the palate, giving way to a light, sparkling fresh berry tartness in the finish. It is better as a breakfast beer or a dessert? You decide.

0.75l corked bottle from Beergium, shared with Elvis & family. Aroma is vinous, musty, woody and strawberry-like with vanilla note. Pours hazy yellow brown color with thin creamy off-white head and yeast residue. Taste starts funky vinous with tart strawberries, follows by wood, vanilla and cereals with well hidden alcohol and quite smooth mouthfeel. Full body, slick texture and lively carbonation in palate. Strawberry gem…

From tap at Borefts 2016. Aroma is lots of sour strawberries, tart berries. Flavour is nicely above medium sourness. Body is medium. Delivers as promised, a glass full of tasty sour strawberries.

A good old classic from this pioneer in American sour ales, vintage bottle still with the old label style, thanks Craftmember for sharing! Mousy, off-white, quickly opening and totally dissolving head, hazy orangey peach blonde robe with off-amberish tinge hinting at oxidation, even shifting to a muddy caramelly brown with sediment. Aroma of strawberry indeed and lots of it (strawberry juice sweetness most of all – reminding me of Hanssens’ Oudbeitje at first glance), strawberry vinegar, pineapple, old biscuit, vinaigrette, lemon, raw rhubarb, rosehip but also a clear ‘clinical’ phenolic effect of band aid, initially still subtle but growing stronger in the end. Lots of tart berry sourness in the onset, mitigated a bit by a superficial sweetness of strawberry juice, but hinting at redcurrant and unripe gooseberry, even sour oranges as well; medium carb, smooth bready and bit biscuity malt core thoroughly dried by the sourness, even turning a tad vinegary in the end, albeit still mostly raspberry vinegar-like so it does remain true to its promise. Bready yeastiness, some woodiness and ongoing acidity in the end, with that strawberry sweetness (sweetness to be interpreted here as aromatic rather than actual sugary sweetness) continuing. From previous experiences with vintage Cascade sours, I was expecting this one to be even more sour, and though a brief moment of vinegar-reminiscent sharpness is certainly there, I found the overall sourness quite accessible (for a trained sour ale consumer at least) and even softened by the sweetness from the strawberries. Bit past its prime, I suppose, but quite enjoyable.

Wooo, Cascade! Heavy sourness, tons of strawberries and good wood. Not much else to say, these people make brilliant stuff.

Bottle. Pours unclear reddish amber. Aroma is strawberry, funk, pastry, a bit chemical, but that might be my subjective impression. Body is medium, strongly sour and rather tart, still lots of strawberry, less artificial than before. Good balance, juicy and jammy and refreshing. Very good!

750 ml bottle, 2015 Project, ABV is 7.1%. Orange colour, large head, slightly off-white. Unpleasant and aroma of solvent, stale strawberry jam in the background, Sour flavour, notes of vinegar more than strawberry, with the terrible aroma lurking in the background. Return to the Norwegian importer!
