Bottle: Unfiltered In 1952, in order to place the modernisation of the brewery on the right commercial footing, much care was taken with the launch of Rochefort's two new beers. The refectory beer had been the basis for the development of the ‘Middel’ (also known as ‘Merveille’) which became the Rochefort 6. The 10, however, needed something else to elevate it: candy sugar, steeped in the wort in metal baskets, quite an innovation in those days. Furthermore, two malts were used in the brewing process: pils and caramel malt, as well as wheat starch, two varieties of hops and Rochefort’s own yeast. The result was the powerful Rochefort 10, a beer sure to warm your heart with its robust dose of alcohol.

09-03-17 // bottle at home Bottled: 2014 Dark brown beer with a nice and solid beige head. Creamy malty taste, very smooth, alcohol well covered. Mild bitter, mild yeasty, mild nuts, toffee, light spices, very complex. Great beer.

Nice head. Very intensive fruity aroma. Full of raisins, plums, caramel. Alcohol is very similiar as aroma. Very sweet, intensive, complex with alcoholic finish. Very high carbonation. Full body. Awesome beer.

Out of an 11.2 oz. bottle from Market Street (thank you very much) I pour into my favorite Chimay glass about 3/4 of the bottle. It yields a nice quad style dark amber body and an outstanding near-white head. First time encounter gives a tropical fruit and banana nose. Beam me up Scotty. The taste is exquisite, dark fruit, malt, a light bitterness. A red letter day. Two great tastings today. If I can find this again I will partake again, price be damned. What is it about quadrupels? After a number of revisits to the 10, I recognize its brilliance, kick the rating up some.

Brown with medium beige head. Aroma is lots of marzipan, phenols and spices, raisins, black bread. Taste is sweet caramel, phenolic spices, slightly bitter alcohol. Full bodied with many large bubbles, long finish of spices and raisins. Nice.

Bottle. Blackish brown. Big foamy head. Aroma is rather subdued. Malts, plums and earthy, herbal hops. Taste is raisins, malts, caramel, figs, dark berries, chocolate and a little bit of coffee. Yeast and fruitcake. Complex and perfectly balanced. Long lasting aftertaste. Full bodied. Medium carbonation. Alcohol is very present but in a pleasant and not overwhelming way. Outstanding and one of my alltime favourites.

Drank this a few times, never wrote anything. Murky brown, small creamy off-white head. Cherry brandy, walnut brandy, apricot, dried fruits. Fruity, fruit yogurt, lots of alcohol. Creamy texture, full body, lasting finish, lingering sweetness and alcohol. Very nice.

Flesje gedronken bij Benzai. Roodbruin bier met stevig schuim. Aroma is caramel achtig en zoet. Smaak is zoet, koffie-achtig en fruitig (pruimen). Nasmaak is iets bitter.
