Bottle: Unfiltered In 1952, in order to place the modernisation of the brewery on the right commercial footing, much care was taken with the launch of Rochefort's two new beers. The refectory beer had been the basis for the development of the ‘Middel’ (also known as ‘Merveille’) which became the Rochefort 6. The 10, however, needed something else to elevate it: candy sugar, steeped in the wort in metal baskets, quite an innovation in those days. Furthermore, two malts were used in the brewing process: pils and caramel malt, as well as wheat starch, two varieties of hops and Rochefort’s own yeast. The result was the powerful Rochefort 10, a beer sure to warm your heart with its robust dose of alcohol.

Hazy brown with a small tan head. Aroma of overripe dark fruits, caramel, malt, toffee, dried fruits and brown sugar. Flavour is heavy sweet. Full bodied with light carbonation. Always a classic.

Completing the trio. So good. Lively though, so managed to lose some on the desk...least it will smell nice for a bit.

Bottle online from Beerhouseshop.be. Pours a murky deep mahogany brown colour with a large thick creamy beige head. Aromas of dry dark fruits, caramel, candied sugar. Taste is rich and full flavoured with more dry dark fruits, caramel, candied sugar, plums, vanilla, hints of leather and a touch of peppery spice. Full body, average carbonation with a smooth silky slightly oily mouthfeel. Sweet but not too sweet finish. Excellent balance. Alcohol extremely well hidden. Fantastic Quad.

Bottled 22.06.2016, Sampled on october 15th , 2020. Always kept in my personal cellar (non wine cooler area) Pours a lighter, more clear, yet still very dark brown. Sediment has formed flakes. Foam is less stable, but still present for a while. Scent is a blast of fine port, dried dark fruits. heavy and complex. Taste is full, port, dried dark fruits, chocolate, a rediculously gentle yeast aroma, sweetness. Taste can create a heavy memory-throwback, and believe you me, beer can also create a feeling. How does a Rochefort 10 of 4 year old, served cellar temperature, perfectly aged féél ? Imagine a hug from your crush, for the first time ever. The perfect beer sure doesn't exist , but its laughable how freakin' close rochefort 10 comes. Bacth after batch, year after year. Available in all good bars, supermarkets, even nightshops (in BE ) for less money than your avarage, often dissapointing craftbeer.

Bottle, Pivoljub. Dirty, dark brown. Medium sized foamy beige head, ok lasting. Medium yeasty nose, mild chocolate nose and some gentler dry fruits, figs and raisins. Medium bitterness, some yeastiness. Dry fruits sweetness with some cellar feel, a bit peppery. Lasting aftertaste. A bit of alcohol warmth that warms nicely. Medium light body.

Adding in my 300 Beers To Try ticks because I want to see how they impact my stats and some of them I will never see again. Will however re-rate them when practical.
