From Dave’s Blog:

To make a beer that both Fullers and Hardknott would be proud of is the main objective. For it to comply with our objectives it had to be different, somehow. A contemporary spin on using all English ingredients seemed to be a good thing to do.

Charles Faram came to the rescue with their hop breeding program. We got Archer, Baron, Bishop and Landlady hops which I believe are the first year of a very small comertial release. Will Rogers from Faram had this to say;

"These four varieties have come from the Charles Faram hop development program and we are delighted at their application in this collaboration brew. They are in the traditional English style but with fantastic disease resistance to facilitate a sustainable future for the English hop industry. They have been selected for their excellent brewing potential with new flavours and aromas whilst still being recognisably English in their nature."

Bottle from Chester Beer & Wine. Hazy amber pour with a generous off-white head. Rather muted nose, with some grassy hop and marmalade notes. Dryish flavour with some earthy and sweet malt notes alongside citrus and decent hop bitterness. Farly lively carbonation. Some english reserve in evidence here in comparison to the more in your face hop varieties from foreign shores. Perfectly drinkable and not without some charm.

Bottle at Craig’s 16th Oct 2012
Orange amber, slight haze, big frothy white head from bottle
Aroma - pale caramel malts, soft spicy hop, hint of orange
Taste - soft bit spicy english hops, caramel malts, touch of honey, nice, mellow
Palate - soft carb, medim body, some oilyness. Finish - smooth, mellow, little dry
Overall - It’s OK - not that hoppy, mellow, understated...I think I expected more from this collabaration...nothing that special here

Bottle at the Sussex Arms, Twickenham Green - 30/09/12. Hazy golden blonde with a big bubbly white head. Light caramel aroma, fruit tones, slightly sour nose. Taste follows sour fruity flavour. Medium bodied with the carbonation being pitched a little too high and spritzy for my liking. Drinkable but a little disappointed with this one, expected something more!
