I have found quadrupels from White Pony to typically be quality beers and worth the effort to obtain. This 33 cl bottle of Isolation came from a Belgian retailer back early in the summer. The current cold weather makes a sampling this evening an attractive proposition. For this tasting I am using my favored Trappistes Rochefort glass. I tilt the bottle to the waiting glass and see a coppery, caramel colored body with a small eggshell brown head that benefits from a steady recharging. The scent is strong with spices, really I cannot detect much else. And the drink, I say it is unlike any quad I have had previously. The spiciness is not so overwhelming but still obvious. Nutmeg, cardamom, perhaps cinnamon, figs, malt, grain, some toffee sweetness and alcohol. Interesting drink, glad to have had it, but doubt I would purchase again.
