Sweet, grainy and sugary, with a fairly clean palate. Caramel. Not too thin and watery. One of the better Dutch oud bruins.

Fles thuis geprobeerd. Het heeft een donkerbruine kleur met weinig schuim. De geur is zoet en moutig. De smaak is zoet en caramelachtig.

Bottle shared at kermis' Asian food festival. Clear mahogany with beige head. Sweet caramel, sweet red fruits, raisins, bread and lots of sugar. Very sweet and really light bitter. Almost medium bodied. This is just not a great beerstyle but this is not a terrible beer, probably one of the best in the style.

25 cl bottle at a terrace right on the corner of the Sint-Servaasbrug, overlooking the Meuse on a sunny day. Wonderful setting, terrible beer: it pours nicely clean maroon with a thick tan head that wanes rapidly. Aroma is very low: just some cocoa, some cola, a hint of rhubarb. So far nothing horrible. And then, you take a sip: cloying, but not even on the sugary side, but on the artificial sweetener’s. Not enough acidity to make it feel fresh, really watery... Finish is, again, cloying. No trace of bitterness to level things up. Very bad.

On tap at ’De Klep’. Clear, dark brownish red with a thin, dense, almost stable, beige head. Sweetish-malty aroma of mainly caramel, some nuts and slightest hints of chocolate. Very sweet, malty, bready and slightly roasty taste of lots of caramel, nuts, toasted bread and Cola, followed by a short, slightly bitter, bready and a bit roasty finish. Almost medium-bodied, slightly creamy mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Very nice Dutch Oud Bruin, way better than Heineken for example, probably also way better than from bottle as well.
