A collaborative effort with Lowercase Brewing Co. to meet a challenge from our friend Aaron Blonden: brew a lager with entirely salmon-safe ingredients.

With the help of Mainstem and Indie Hops, we selected Vienna malt and Crystal hops, both grown at Goschie Farms—allowing us to meet our salmon-safe goal, and even better, to express the character of a single estate.

We single-decocted the mash and deployed multiple additions of that Goschie Farms Crystal in both the boil (for bittering) and whirlpool (for aroma). After a long and cold fermentation with a relatively-obscure strain of Bavarian lager yeast, End Grain was dry-hopped with more Crystal and then lagered for another 4 weeks.

16 oz can poured, picked up at Hop and Hound. Picked up not knowing this was a lager, or a collab. To be honest, I saw Mirage, and knew I wanted to check it out. I'm stoked to learn the two things about this brew. Excited for it for sure. Cloudy and bright golden orange pour, a moderate foam head and lacing. Aroma is mild, but malty, with subtle hints of a grassy hop character. Really flavorful, and full bodied lager here. Bold, earthy grain lingers in the palate. Refreshing and easy drinking. Good hop character, but definitely not a super hopped IPL of any sorts. At 4%, this is a brew I could drink a ton of. Really nicely done.
