Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a matte black color with a large foamy orange-brown head that left decent lacing. The aroma was sweet, malty and toasty with notes of molasses, cocoa powder and soy sauce. The flavor was sweet and malty with molasses, cherry, fig, chickory, cocoa powder and soy sauce. Medium length finish. Moderately full bodied and smooth. Solid.

Reviewed from notes.
This was poured into a pint glass and a snifter. There weren’t any significant differences in either glass.
The appearance was a nice black color with a decent half fingered white to off white foamy head that dissipated within about a minute. There was some light trickling lacing sliding right on into the body.
The smell had some caramel, toffee, cocoa, toasted bread and a cherry-like fruit to it.
The taste took those previously mentioned flavors and added a decent dark roasty quality to it.
On the palate, this one sat about a medium on the body with a decent sessionable quality about it. The carbonation was fairly subdued but still good.
Overall, I say this was a well worthy Baltic Porter to come back to.

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, best before 9/5/2013. Pours crystal clear very dark reddish brown color with a 1-2 finger dense khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice soapy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of caramel, toast, toffee, chocolate, brown bread, molasses, raisin, prune, nuttiness, light roast, and toasted earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance of dark malt notes with moderate fruitiness; and good strength. Taste of caramel, molasses, toast, toffee, chocolate, brown bread, raisin, prune, light roast, nuttiness, and toasted earthiness. No bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, molasses, toast, toffee, chocolate, brown bread, dark fruit, nuttiness, light roast, and toasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice balance and complexity of dark/toasted malt flavors with moderate fruitiness; and zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Light-medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a creamy and slick mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with only a small warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a very nice Baltic porter. All around nice balance and complexity of dark/toasted malt flavors with moderate fruitiness; and very smooth to sip on. A very enjoyable offering.

Bottle @ home, picked up at 287 Liquor Fort Collins. Pours a deep brown appearance with a dark brown head. Big sweet black licorice, brown sugar, dark fruit, chocolate, caramel, candy, a touch boozy, enticing aroma. Smells good. Quite rich, rich burnt sugar, caramelized sugar, spicy cinnamon, anise, light vanilla, a bit woody, potent chocolate flavor. Lots of raisin and dark fruit notes. It’s a big beer with big flavors. Maybe it just needed some time to mellow out. This is nice. Surprisingly pure deliciousness.

12 ounce bottle. Pours a muddy brown color with a small white head. A sweet nose of caramel and figs. A rich flavor of tobacco, figs, burnt caramel, strawberries. Pretty nice. A bit of smoke. Interesting.

Pours a dark brown with small head. Aroma of raisin, plum, and sherry. Flavors include some toffee, caramel, fruit (aforementioned raisin), some chocolate and licorice. Nice, warming beer; a good winter choice.

Dark brown color, close to black. Aroma of dark caramel and animal, light phenol. Dark caramel flavor, some oxidization, cabbage, light malt sourness; correct bitterness; roasted nuts in the end.
Odd, indeed.

On tap at Tapwerks. Pours dark brown with a tan head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has sweet dark grains with sweet chocolate and a hint of roasted malts. Flavor starts with sweet dark grains and chocolate and is joined by roasted malts in the finish.
