English-Style Ale brewed with Pretty Things Beer & Ale Project.

Collaboration No. 3 - Stingo was brewed using traditional English ingredients. A variety of ale and specialty malts from Yorkshire are at the forefront; their pronounced roasty aroma and flavor contain hints of toffee, cocoa and bread crust. English hop varieties contribute subtle herbal, peppery qualities. The beer was brewed in batches; some was fermented on oak, some was fermented normally, and some was allowed to sour in the mash tun before being transferred to a fermenter. Batches were then blended until desired levels of wood and tartness were achieved for the final product.

Total Wine, Fairfax 750ml: Pours a brown with a beige head. Aroma is wood, caramel malt, fruit, chocolate, and pretzels. Taste is a bit of pretzel,. A healthy dosage of hops. A subtle undertone of chocolate. Loads of malts. Minor bitterness. Minor sweetness. I didn’t get too much sourness out of this. Pleasant body. Not too much carbonation.

750 c&c from Wine & Cheese in Clayton, MO. Pours hazy, dark ruddy copper with a creamy/fizzy beige head. Aroma is somewhat roasted malt with a lot of fruit, treacle and pepper notes. Gets a little nutty as well. Full bodied, or close enough. Flavor is nutty (has that oilness too), chocolate, fruit, hint of coffee, oak astringency, herby, touch of pepper, maybe a little banana ester. There are some traces of sour. It’s kind of mouth drying. Pretty complex.

750mL bottle, pours a deep dark opaque amber with a medium beige head. Aroma has quite a bit of heat, with English malts, caramel malts, dark fruits and booze. Flavour brings out yeasty notes upfront, English malts and some dark fruits following. Too high carbonation which obscures the complexity. Decent stuff, but quite flawed.
