25th Anniversary Pale Doppelbock

Bomber - nothing about this resembles a Doppelbock - hazy orange pour - nose is sugar and tropical fruit, some alcohol and some floral hops - medium body - slightly slick in the mouth - flavor begins sugary sweet - tropical notes through the middle - moderate hop bitterness on the tail end, as well as some alcohol heat - seems more like a barleywine, really, but even as that it is fairly simple and a little difficult to enjoy.

Bottle @ home, picked up at Wilburs Fort Collins. Pours a bit hazy, darkish orange appearance with an off white head. Bubblegum, spice, toffee, chewy caramel cookie aroma- a bit odd. Tangy, a bit spicy, weird fruity, chewy yeasty, bready, dull caramel flavor. Bleh.

Aroma: The nose has some caramel/toffee, bready malts, sugar, and a fruity hop presence too
Appearance: It pours a murky looking copper/orange color with an off-white head and medium lace
Flavor: Tastes fairly sweet, malty and kind of sugary, and finally, it has a later fruity hop bitterness
Palate: The body is medium, it feels a little sticky and a bit muddled, with dry finish and a little heat
Overall Impression: Pale doppelbock you say? I don't know what I'd call it, but it wouldn't be that. Maybe an American Strong? Yes, American Strong, that seems right. Anyhow, this one has some interesting components, and something about it does work, but at the same time it doesn't quite all come together, so I'm mixed. Considering all that, this score seems about right...

22 oz. bottle, pours a clear amber with a small white head. Nose is quite fruity and nutty, with toasted almonds, various pitted fruits, and some toffee. Flavour brings out dark pitted fruits above all, toffee, some faint toasted nuts, some caramel sweetness, but also some hops to cut this down and provide an element of bitterness. Fairly full-bodied, with a pleasant mesh of flavours, with the pitted fruits characterizing this. Very solid stuff - enjoyable.

Bomber from Made in Oregon. Pours dark copper with a creamy beige head. Aroma seems rather toffee. Med + body. Flavor is fairly sweet caramel. Hints of hop bitter, but this stuff is finishing somewhat on the sweet side. Fair for the style. Certainly there’s hop bitter after all the sugar leaks away. There is no trace of heat. Nice that. With some time I’m thinking it’s finishing towards bitter. Seems ..... Complex isn’t it, but it’s pretty entertaining stuff.

Bottle. Pours a hazy amber with large frothy off white head lasting awhile. The aroma is a bready malt with rye and toast. Thick mouthfeel with a sweet caramel malt and toast with nice crisp finish. Easy to drink a decent doppelbock from Full Sail.
