Here’s a little something to stoke your boiler. This year’s barley wine is full of rich malt flavours and aged in bourbon barrels. Mildly carbonated, Trainwreck should be served at cellar temperature (8C). Careful not to derail your caboose.

650mL bottle, pours a dark amber / mahogany with a small beige head. Nose brings out dark fruits, some woody barrel qualities, and brown sugar - nothing offensive on the nose at least. Flavour is incredibly boozy and barrel-heavy, with notes of vanilla, port / sherry liqueur, bourbon, brown sugar, and shitloads of alcohol which makes it feel more like 15%. Certainly more complex than the base beer, with some nice vanilla notes from the barrels; however, the booziness is so whacked, I don't know how they could have intended this. Marginally better than the base beer, overall. Phillips' booziest beer. Almost like gasoline. Very flawed, but still better than the shitty regular Trainwreck - man, Phillips' barley wines sure are grandiose messes.
