Draft. A pitch black beer with a brown head. The aroma has notes of alcohol, chocolate, roasted malt, and coffee. The flavor is swet with strong notes of chocolate combined with medium notes of malt, coffee, wood, and soy sauce, as well as lighter notes of hops and citrus fruits. The alcohol tickles the palate.

Sample at the brewpub. The beer pours black with a thick brown head that recedes slowly. Large patches of lacing on the glass. Big chocolatey aroma with vanilla and coffee notes. Rather full body with flavors of bittersweet chocolate, coffee and caramel malt. The finish is reminiscent of an iced mocha. Pretty good all around.

On tap. Pours black and opaque with a creamy light brown head. Fat aroma of hard roasted malts and molasses. Very full-bodied, plenty of sweet hard roasted malts, licori´ce and dried fruit. Rather alcoholic finish with some malt bitterness. 080709

From tap at the San Clemente brewpub. Pours dark brown with a small tan head. Smooth roasted and malty flavoured. Acidic and hoppy base flavoured with a solid hoppy presence. Bitter and quite acidic flavoured finish. Smooth and yet with a bite.

Tulip off tap at PP San Clemente. Beautiful pour with a large creamy dark brown head that clings to the glass over a pitch black body. Head lasts for the duration and leaves great lace. When swirled the body also coats the glass with a rich brownness. Aroma of vanilla, coffee beans, and awesomeness. Some hops too. Taste is lots of coffee and sweet chocolate, leather and rich with light hops. Keeps getting more and more complex as it warms with chocolate, leather and dust. It reminds me strongly of Great Divide Yeti, but I think this is better!
