Bottle from sledutah, thanks: pours light brown with small head. Aroma is hints of cherry, wood, vinegar. Taste is sweet, fairly acidic, not super woody, a bit simplistic in some ways. Pretty drinkable.

American 'oud bruin' inspired by Rodenbach; thanks to Leopold for sharing the bottle at Loick's rooftop tasting. Loose, thin, pale greyish white, open, bubbly head on a clear warm copper-hued amber-coloured beer (paler than Rodenbach, if you ask me). Aroma of redcurrant, raspberry vinegar and even sharper red wine vinegar, sour crabapples, sour yoghurt, caramel touch, hints of sewer water (H2S) and cured sausage. Very acidic onset, puckering even, with a sharp vinegary dryness and burning lemony sourness, redcurrant and vague gooseberry notes as well; medium carbonation, supple but thinly caramelly malt body completely dried by this annoyingly sharp acidity, lactic as well, dominating well into the finish and muffling the woody notes from the barrel treatment. American palates - also among young European craft beer consumers - will probably get all enthusiastic about this, but for me this was a disappointment: very one-sidedly acidic, simplistic approach to the noble 'Vlaams rood' tradition, too much vinegar and way too little finesse and complexity here. Sorry guys, but I did taste American 'oud bruin' at a serious level (not many though - see Lost Abbey and Almanac) and this is not even close. This brewery in Utah does not understand how refined, accomplished and difficult to make Rodenbach is - point off for trying to pretend that this is a true Flemish red.

Bottle from Rich, vintage 2014? Dark brown, mahoghany, flat. Sour, tart aroma, brett. Taste had a nice sharp brett bite, sweet. Held up nicely with aging.

Another beer I tried at the 3rd Cotteridge Tasting on 20th May 2017. Somehow got here from ’Sledutah’, cheers mate. Beige head on a murky brown bodied pour. Bit of a sour Puss of a beer, tart and sharp red berries in both the nose and taste. Didn’t read the label, so wasn’t expecting a Belgian style Oud Bruin. Not a big fan of the style, but this was fine once I realised what I had in front of me.
