Cask at the Eagle, Cambridge. Ruddy brown with a very loose off-white head. A bit of astringency and toffee on the nose, not much else. The actual taste is very nice: sugar sweet with a red berry bitterness right at the end. However the finish is a let down. Short, slightly sulphurous and a bit of a mess. This us the first cask ale I’ve had that truly replicates the pasteurised-to-hell metallic blandness of a bottled supermarket bitter. But... it is drinkable and has its good moments. So, not all doom and gloom.

Clear deep copper color with a small off white layer on top. Flowery, sweet malty and faint citric aroma. Tad sweet and an ok bitterness. Medium body with a soft to flat carbonation. Sweet malty close to diacetyl, faint citric and nutty. Quite disappointing ale. Why call it an IPA when you forget to use a proper amount of hops.

Part of my 2013 backlog. Redish amber colour with a white head. Aroma was buttery and sweet, with malts. The taste wasn’t hoppy for an IPA more malty.

Cask at The Wharf, Aalborg, Denmark
Golden color with small head. The aroma is mild, with some malt and some grassy hops; light manure and apples. Very flat texture, almost oily; good malt/toffee flavor, lightly crispy and biscuity; the bitterness is too strong, and it gives a metallic feeling; mild grassy finish.
Initially appreciated, it turns out difficult to drink (a pint).
