On tap at the Ravensgate Arms Ramsgate. Hazy reddish brown colour lasting beige head. Hoppy aroma. It's a hell of a barley wine. Good dark red fruits. Bitter finish. Sweetish. Good strawberry jam. Rather good i thought. Hoppy finish. Peppery.

On tap at Brasserie 4:20, Rome. Pours brown with small off-white head. Heavy malty, caramel, hops, pine, dried fruit. Sweet with quite bitter finish. Medium+ bodied. Not the easiest to drink. Warming.

Bottle. A couple years aged. Nose is caramel, pine, orange. Very resiny. Amber-orange with lace. Big hops still remaining, grapes, caramel, pine. Stone fruits. Very nice.

Draught @ 4:20. Aroma is sweet, fruity and hoppy with caramel and toffee candy. Flavour has resiny malt, tropical fruits, alcohol and toffee. Heavy, sweet and resiny - a barley wine as it should be. There?s a slight gluey tone that disturbs me a bit though. Also alcohol starts to come through after some sips. More American BW than the most of the America BWs itself. Massive, drinkability is not that great due to the overwhelming everything.

330 ml bottle. Clear deep golden to amber body with a medium sized, lacing off-white head. Strong aroma of sweet malt, dry fruit, grapefruit and some alcohol, actually less boozy than expected for the high ABV. Flavor is very sweet and malty, toast, dry fruit, medium bitterness and rather boozy. Full body and a long lasting, sweet alcoholic aftertaste. Pretty heavy this one, some complexity but too sticky sweet and boozy to really make a good score in my book. The first little sip was a lot more impressive, but drinking the whole bottle was just a bit too much.

Bottle sample at the last tasting at Beer Market Jaffa. Thanks Stas & Vova. Clear amber. Aroma of malt, caramel, some cookies and lots of stale hops. Sweet flavor with malt, caramel, stale hops, some bitterness and a bit of alcohol. Medium-bodied. Probably better when fresher.

Alpha blood barleywine 11% a very IPA like copper gold pour with a big dank resinous hop nose. American barleywine or Double IPA you decide. Big full malty body with a smooth mouthfeel & round carbonation. The taste is caramel, orange rinds, pine, biscuit, dankness - really good stuff.
