This black lager has flavors of dark coffee, chocolate, and subtle wood smoke. Our black sheep’s color stands out and leads the herd in drinkability.

Can from Bottles & Cans. Served in a footed pilsner glass. Bready chocolate syrup aroma think Nestle Qwick. Great black pour with a thick solid beige head of foam. It has a medium body and a soft mouthfeel with a round carbonation. The taste is a pleasant soft cocoa powder with chewy bready dark malts. Pretty good. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12 fl. oz. bottle. Pours a dark brown colour with a small, short lived, tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, nuts, caramel and a slight hint of smoke. Sweet flavour of roasted malt, caramel, dark chocolate and a bitter coffee finish. Medium body with an oily texture and soft carbonation.

Refrigerated 12 oz. brown squat bottle poured into a glass. Pours just translucent black with small beige head. Aroma is roasty, medium body, medium carbonation, and good really small bubble lacing. Taste is roasty, some herbal hops, and some dark chocolate. Pretty good Schwartz beer.

bottle - Pours dark brown with a tan head and has a mild roasted malt aroma. The flavor is sweet with roast malt and a little coffee. It’s medium bodied and fairly good but not impressive.

(Bottle) Almost black colour with hints of ruby when seen through light. Frothy beige head. Malty, roasted nose with notes of coffee, black rye bread, liquorice, dark chocolate and hints of raisins. Malty, roasted taste with coffee, dark chocolate, black rye bread, liquorice, hints of burnt sugar and a touch of orange peel in the finish. Balanced bitterness. Medium body, with a touch of sweetness, but mainly dry. Tasty, well balanced and highly drinkable. Nice one.

Nearly opaque black pour with a medium tan head that diminishes gradually to an outer ring. Partial rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malt and coffee. Light-bodied with flavors of burnt malt, mild coffee and a bit of dark chocolate. The finish is sweet with a short malty aftertaste. Decent overall.

Can from Lazy Dog Pours a deep dark brown with a smallish off white head that dissipates quickly. Aromas of burnt caramel toffee and butter with a hint of chocolate with a touch of ash and sulfur. Flavor is rich caramel and chocolate with hints of butter. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and a slick sweet mouthfeel. Decent brew, but the buttery aspect of it turned me off a bit.

Location: Sampled at Living Social Beerfest, 12/6/13

Aroma: The nose is on the light side, with roasted malts, some caramel, and a little bread
Appearance: It pours a dark brown-black color with a small, off-white head and average lace
Flavor: The taste is similar, plenty of roast flavor, some malty sweetness, and a light bitterness
Palate: The body feels light for the style, but not watery, with a decently clean, dry finish
Overall Impression: I found this too be a nice, drinkable, but not all that exciting beer. There's nothing wrong with it per se, but I can't think of a reason to rush out for it either.
