Citrus Ninja Exchange is the first of two collaboration beers brewed with The Charleston Beer Exchange. The first incarnation (released on draft only in September 2011) was a single-hopped Cascade double IPA brewed with approximately 50 lbs of fresh grapefruit, and then dry-hopped 4 times in the fermenter. The 2012 version has a simplified malt bill and uses a blend of American and New Zealand hop varieties.

Sample @ Stockholm Beer & Whisky 2012. Pours hazy golden with a small frothy offwhite head that leaves some lacing and trace on the glass while slowly dissipating. Smell is sweet, malty and slightly herbal with lemon hard candy, alcohol, lemon balm, dill, cookie dough, grapefruit juice, lemon zest, orange zest and hints of sweet bread. Taste is sweet, bitter, herbal and malty with sweet dark bread, caramel, alcohol, soap, dill, lemon balm, grapefruit juice, lemon zest, orange zest, grass, pine, lemon grass and hints of resinous wood. Mouthfeel is tiny sticky sweet, slightly astringent, slightly boozy and medium bodied. Finish is tiny sweet and bitter with bread, orange and lemon peal, unripe mango, pine, grass, moist soil and resinous wood. Felt a bit all over the place. First Westbrook that left me disappointing.
